About Me

My photo
twenty-seven skirts
Sewing is my favorite pastime without a doubt. As early as I can remember, I sat on the floor next to my mother's sewing machine while she worked and used her scraps to fashion clothes for my baby dolls. I got my first sewing machine while I was in the third grade. I started making denim caps and bags out of old jeans for myself and friends and actually made a blue polyester pant suit that I wore to school and impressed the heck out of my third grade teacher. For years, I collaborated with my mother to make stylish clothes for myself. We spent many a happy hour combing through our local fabric shops. I got my first professional sewing job when I was 15 making duvet covers, and then I worked for an antique shop turning antique embroidered runners into Victorian inspired camisoles. Since then I've worked as a professional seamstress in a custom wedding gown studio and theatre costume shops. For family and friends, I've worked on, with love, countless Halloween costumes, wedding gowns, prom dresses, and numerous other custom pieces. My latest inspiration comes from Japanese sewing and craft magazines, Zakka, and quilting. I do a lot of projects using recycled materials.
